TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Directorate General of Sea Transport at the Ministry of Transportation, through the Sea and Coast Guard Unit (KPLP), deployed patrol boats for the search and evacuation of the victims of the Dewi Noor 1 motor boat that was sinking at the Thousand Islands.
KPLP director Rivolindo received the initial report of the accident on early Saturday, August 19. “KPLP (Sea and Coast Guard Unit) immediately responded to the situation and send SAR and evacuation teams to the location,” he said in a written statement on Saturday.
Rivolindo explained that the vessel KM Dewi Noor 1 departed from Mutiara Beach with a destination of Sepa Island. But on its way at 03:30, the vessel had an accident and was sinking at coordinates 5°54’371″S – 106°42’100″E, in between the East of Untung Jawa Island and Pari Island.
A barge, Mitra Jaya 21, who sailed near the area immediately helped crews of boat KM Dewi Noor 1. “In the rescue attempt, 1 victim was declared died, three went missing, and 11 survived, with one of them in sick condition,” sail Rivolindo.
KPLP, along with other agencies, was actively searching for the three missing victims.
